Aaliyah Dana Haughton

Aaliyah Dana Haughton was born January 16, 1979. She lived an amazing 22 years before she died in in a plane crash on Saturday August 25, 2001. She and eight others were returning to the U.S. after filming her "Rock the boat" video in the Bahamas when the plane she was on went down.

Aaliyah had been building a career since the age of 6 when she appeared in a stage production of "Annie" at Gesu Elementry School. She later went on to perform in Las Vegas at the age of 11 with her Uncle's wife then, Gladys Knight. She release her first album "Age ain't Nuthin but a Number" in 1994. At age 16 she released her double platinum album "One in a Million". Her single on the Anastasia Movie soundtrack, "Journey to the Past" earned her a Grammy nomination for best R&B singer when she was 21.

Aaliyah's parents; her father Michael and her mother Diane were her managers, and her brother Rashad co-wrote many of her songs. She successfully branched out into film with the Juliette-like role of Trish O'Day in the the movie "Romeo Must Die". In 2001 Aaliyah had just released her third album self-title Aaliyah and was set to star in the next two installments of the movie " The Matrix" with Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Laurence Fishburn and Jada Pinkett-Smith. Although Aaliyah had released three fantastic albums, her last showcasing her awesome vocal abilities,"Age ain't Nuthin" remains my favorite. I absolutely loved her remake of the Isleys "At your best" and the remix of the same song I still have trouble listening too with wanting to cry at the thought that she is gone. I looked forward to seeing so much more happened for this beautiful, young, talented entertainer. I miss her so. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with her parents and brother.
